Privacy and cookies

In short: How Social Care Made Easy handles information: postcode tools, Stripe donations, Payhip, affiliate links, and cookies. Plain English UK GDPR notice.
An open letter with a pencil and a speech bubble.

In short

  1. This site is an independent guide. We do not sell your personal data.
  2. The postcode tools send your postcode from your browser to a free lookup service. We do not save it.
  3. We do not run tracking or advertising cookies on this site. See Cookies below.

Who we are

Social Care Made Easy is an independent information website about adult social care and related help in England. It is not part of the NHS, DWP, any council or any government body.

Contact: admin@socialcaremadeeasy.com.

What this notice covers

This page explains what happens to information when you use socialcaremadeeasy.co.uk. It is written in plain English for UK GDPR and PECR. It is information only — not legal advice.

Information we do not collect on this site

Postcode tools

On Find your council and Find care near you, your browser sends the postcode you type to the free postcodes.io service so we can show the right council or local results. That request goes from your browser to postcodes.io. This site does not save or log your postcode.

Find care near you also loads open care-register data that is stored as files on this site. The search then runs in your browser. See the sources listed on that page.

Donations (Stripe)

The “Support this site” button opens a Stripe donation page (donate.stripe.com). If you choose to donate, Stripe collects and processes your payment details. We do not collect your card number on this website. Stripe’s own privacy notice applies to that checkout.

Workbooks (Payhip)

Some free or pay-what-you-can workbooks open on Payhip. If you buy or download there, Payhip (and its payment partners) process that. We do not take card payments on this website.

Affiliate and shop links

Some pages include affiliate links, including Amazon UK. They are marked (Ad). If you follow a shop link, that shop may set its own cookies and process your purchase under its own privacy notice. Free and official help is always shown first. See About our ads.

Cookies and similar storage

This website does not set tracking or advertising cookies.

The “Bigger text” button stores a simple preference in your browser’s local storage (key name scme-big) so the larger text can stay on when you open another page. That stays on your device. It is not a cookie, and we do not read it on a server.

If you dismiss the short privacy note at the bottom of the page, your browser may also remember that choice in local storage on your device.

When you leave this site for Stripe, Payhip, Amazon or another shop, those sites may set their own cookies. That is outside our control.

Because we do not set non-essential cookies on this site, we do not show a cookie consent banner.

Emails you send us

If you email admin@socialcaremadeeasy.com, we will use your message to reply. We keep emails only as long as needed to deal with your question, then delete or archive them in the normal way for a small site inbox.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where that applies. Because this site does not run accounts or store postcodes, there is often little or nothing held here beyond any email you chose to send.

To use these rights, email admin@socialcaremadeeasy.com.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, please email us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
